The January MBAA Board meeting was held January 5, 2010 in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Presenting at the meeting were Mississippi Insurance Commissioner, Mike Chaney and his Director of Licensing, Robert “Bobby” Perkins. Both talked about the improvements in the quality of the bail bond industry and spent a fair amount of time answering questions from the group which ranged from the price of collect calls from the jail to the issue around the theft of cash collateral by bail agents.
The Board met on several topics including the 2010 legislative agenda which included a proposed amendment “removing the requirement that a sheriff approve the licensed bail agent on a bond.” All of the various committees presented their monthly reports with the meeting culminating with the Board approving the creation of a new website.
Following the Board meeting the MBAA hosted a legislative reception at the Old Capital Inn in downtown Jackson, MS. The reception was very well attended by legislators and the Lieutenant Governor. To learn more visit www.msbail.org.
