Do’s and Don’ts of Web Design

December 1, 2009Posted by Eric Granofin News

“How can I get the most out of my website” and “what should I do” are two of the most frequent questions we hear from agents across the country. In order to answer these questions, we have provided the following list of website insights and recommendations from some of the nation’s leading brand strategy and design firms:

1.       Understand your audiences – Know who they are and what are they looking for so that you can provide them with relevant information.

2.       Understand yourself – Understand your strengths and how to best communicate them to your audiences.

3.       Design your site – How you design and present the content on your site can add or subtract from how people understand what you are trying to tell them. Use a clean simple design that presents content in a straightforward manner.

4.       Show your true colors – Avoid using generic templates that are not “Search” friendly and create a site that is truly unique and reflective of your brand.

5.       Control your site – No one understands your business like you. Do not turn your site over to a third party.

6.       Scream-to-Action – Don’t bury your contact information in a contact us page, make it very prominent throughout the site.

7.       Get them on and then get them off – Give people a strong reason to come to your site and then even a stronger reason to get off your site and call you.

8.       Pay Homage to the Google Gods  – Make your site a search powerhouse by mastering the art of Google.

9.       Use Your URL – always post your site directly on your own URL and never just be a sub domain to someone else’s URL.
