Association Updates

April 15, 2011Posted by Eric Granofin News

There are recent association meeting updates for the Professional Bondsmen of Harris County and the Orange County Bail Agents Association. Be sure to read this article to stay up to date with the important causes these associations are focusing on.

PBHC Meeting Summary

The Professional Bondsmen of Harris County (PBHC) had their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Saltgrass Restaurant on Shepherd in Houston, Texas. Many topics were discussed including AIA’s efforts to help the success of bail, the Christmas Gala, future meetings and the development of a city forfeiture plan.

Glenda Tanner updated everyone on the progress of this year’s Christmas Gala to benefit the Be An Angel Foundation.  This year, the Gala will be held at the Pine Forest Country Club and should be a very successful event.  Kubosh reminded everyone to attend the fundraising reception for Chris Daniel, Harris County District Clerk and a friend to all Harris County Bondsmen.

John McCluskey reported the positive progress of the PBT Legislative Committee’s work on bills that have been presented to the legislative process in Texas.  Ken Good was the guest speaker and he spoke of the Houston project he was hired to complete. He is going to  make sure the city develops a forfeiture plan that works best for both sides. The next PBHC meeting will be on May 4, 2011. OCBAA Meeting Summary

The Orange County Bail Agents Association (OCBAA) had their meeting on April 12, 2011 at the Tu Tu Tango Café in Orange, CA. They recently wrote a thank you letter to reelected Orange County Sheriff, Sandra Hutchins, for her efforts in continuing to help OCBAA find ways to stop illegal solicitation outside of the jail. A few members of OCBAA will be going to meet her in person next week to introduce themselves and say thank you in person.

Recently, there was a raid of an Orange County bail bond office where three individuals were arrested. The District Attorney’s office issued a press release published on Orange County Register stating that one of the individuals, unlicensed Ernesto Perez, and three co-defendants were illegally soliciting bail calls from inmates, after the three licensed individuals had been detained at the Orange County Jail. Perez is charged with 21 felony counts of negotiating bail without a license and 16 felony counts of ID theft.

GSBAA & CBAA have come together to create an important “Call to Action” due to the new Bill, AB109, signed by Governor Brown. The bill that is set to go into effect later this year will send 40,000 – 80,000 inmates out of California state correctional facilities and into California county jails.
