A True Friend of Bail

December 1, 2009Posted by Eric Granofin News

In order to show our support and appreciation of Senator Carlos Uresti’s hard work on Pro-bail legislation, AIA will be hosting a fundraiser for the Senator on December 17th. The event will take place at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Senator Uresti has played a key role in protecting the rights of bondsmen throughout the state of Texas.   Just last legislative session, Senator Uresti authored SB2438 which was passed and enacted into law as article 2.195 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure which imposes a duty on the Sheriff’s offices to report warrants to NCIC and TCIC.
In the same session, Senator Uresti again helped the PBT and the Bexar County bail agents association in limiting a proposed bill that would have empowered the magistrate in Bexar County in such a way as to harm private sector bonding. Additionally, two sessions ago, the Senator helped the PBT and the Bexar County Bail Agents defeat a proposed bill to create a rocket docket system in Bexar County which would have been detrimental to bail agents.
